About the event
Join us for a concert showcasing the masterworks of three of history's greatest composers - Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms! The overture to Beethoven's singular opera - Fidelio is an energetic curtain-raiser. Beethoven labored over Fidelio for many years and revised the overture a number of times. His first few attempts were complex works, much too heavy to kick off a light-hearted opera about love. The final version of the overture is a compact work full of vitality and vigor. Mozart's overture to his opera - The Magic Flute is a remarkable piece. Following a solemn introduction punctuated by the brass and timpani, the overture’s main part takes wing with an animated fugue. The overture wraps up with a rousing finale, the perfect way to kick off one of Mozart's most recognizable operas. Brahms' 1st symphony opens with a fateful pulsating rhythm. The middle movements are filled with tender and lyrical melodies, which are magnificent. The finale is a jubilant effort for the whole orchestra that ends with a bang! Brahms took much inspiration from Beethoven for his symphony, but it has a truly notable identity of its own. This concert brings together some of the greatest symphonic works ever composed, and we'll also highlight the talents of the winner of our Youth Soloist Competition. It will be an unforgettable afternoon for all in attendance!
