Join us for our symphonic series finale featuring Rimsky-Korsakov's vivid symphonic poem - Scheherazade, along with Tchaikovsky's dazzling Violin Concerto. Scheherazade is a four-movement symphonic poem in the form of a suite composed in 1888 by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, celebrated for its masterful orchestration and vivid evocation of tales from One Thousand and One Nights. Listeners will recognize two principal motifs: the heavy, insistent theme of the Sultan, typically in low winds and brass, and Scheherazade’s sinuous violin melody that recurs throughout, binding the journey together. Rimsky-Korsakov’s use of modal inflections, rapid scalar passages, and shimmering harp strokes creates an exotic soundscape that transports the audience to the mythical East.
